Professor Colin Green, a longtime member of BRICUP, was instrumental in establishing the first medical school in Palestine at Al Quds University, in overcoming Israel’s refusal to accredit it, and assisting Palestine in innumerable other ways. Professor Green invariably behaved in a quiet, unassuming manner, but his effectiveness was enormous. Reprinted below is one of several obituaries to have appeared in recent days. Others will follow.

| Dear Friends, It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Colin Green, our Patron and former committee member. I will never forget my first meeting with Colin at the London College of Oral Implantology. We sat down and he proceeded to share his passion for medicine, teaching, Palestine and music…by the time I left, I was was not sure whether I had met a man or a lion. I was dazzled by Colin’s energy and his determination to support Palestinian talent in any and every way he could. Colin joined our committee around 2015, as we were building up towards our 2016 Palestine Youth Orchestra Tour of six UK cities (Glasgow, Perth, Leeds, Birmingham, Cardiff and London). He proved to be absolutely decisive for the success of the tour, leveraging the financial support of so many of his friends and colleagues through his medical charity IMET2000, which specialised in training doctors in Palestine. The tour would simply not have happened without him. While IMET2000’s main focus was the training of Palestinian medical students, Colin believed passionately in the power of music to heal hearts and support the mental well-being of communities and recovering patients. For years, IMET2000 and PalMusic UK collaborated in highly successful and inspiring fundraising events that benefited the projects of both charities….a partnership we have felt truly grateful for. We send Colin, his family and the team at IMET2000 all our love and would like to thank you for all you have done and facilitated for so many people. love Wissam BoustanyChair, PalMusic UK |
