An urgent appeal from Birzeit University teachers and employees

4 August 2025

This call for action comes from teachers and employees of Birzeit University who have endured the emotional torture of living just a few dozen kilometres from Gaza where Israeli forces are brutally attacking their colleagues, friends and family every single day.

Scream for Gaza — Do Not Forget the People of the Tents 24 July 2025

From Birzeit University, in the heart of occupied Palestine, we are screaming with Gaza. We need
everyone from Palestine, the Arab nations, and the peoples of the world to amplify the cry of Gaza.
Palestinians in Gaza have been subjected to the mast horrific live-streamed genocide and the longest siege in human history. No one should he surprised that Palestinians m Gaza have now reached stage five levels of starvation, this is deliberate and intentional. For 22 months, since the Zionist war minister publicly declared the cutoff of water, food, electricity, and medicine to Gaza – following an already devastating 17 year long siege – Gaza has endured this relentless violence. Today, after 65 days of ongoing targeting by the settler colonial state against our people, accompanied by the complicity, collaboration, and abandonment by official Arab and international regimes, and after exhausting every form of atrocity from the book of barbarity, “Israel” has tightened its suffocating siege and escalated the use of starvation as a terrifying weapon against more than two million Palestinians. Palestinians in Gaza have now been crammed by the Zionist war machine into less than 12% of the Gaza Strip, which has been destroyed before the eyes of the world.

Palestinians no longer need to offer proof of the enemy’s savagery in erasing them – the dead neither
provide nor require evidence. But the bodies of the living – of the displaced, besieged, sick, wounded,
hungry, and thirsty – still resist, driven by a will to live. The genocidal will of the Zionist state and its
allies, however, has not stopped at starvation; it went further by turning food into a weapon through
death traps disguised as “aid distribution.” This became especially dire after two months of operation by
the “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation,” which is controlled by the genocidal governments of Israel and the United Slates, and run with various nefarious mercenaries, have targeted and killed aver 1,000
Palestinians so far, either by individual sniper fire or mass massacres.

The horrific outcomes of the war crime of using starvation as a tool of genocide prompted Amnesty International, along with 109 global organizations, to ring the alarm bell for the conscience of the world. They exposed this double crime, debunked the false narrative of ‘‘aid flow,’’ and confirmed that “the UN-led humanitarian system has not failed, it has been prevented front functioning,” by the occupying power and its allies.

These organisations affirmed that “Governments must stop waiting for permission to act. We cannot
continue to hope that current arrangements will work It is time to take decisive action, demand an
immediate and permanent ceasefire; lift all bureaucratic and administrative restrictions, open all land
crossings; ensure access to everyone in all of Gaza; reject military-controlled distribution models; restore a principled, UN-led humanitarian response and continue to fund principled and impartial humanitarian organisations. States must pursue concrete measures to end the siege, such as halting the transfer of weapons and ammunition. Piecemeal arrangements and symbolic gestures, like airdrops or flawed aid deals, serve as a smokescreen for inaction They cannot replace states’ legal and moral obligations to protect Palestinian civilians and ensure meaningful access at scale. States can and must save lives before there are none left to save.”

The shame born from the world’s failure in the face of Gaza’s starvation must become the shame of
shame itself – to erase the disgrace of complicity with genocidal will, and to initiate saving Gaza as a step toward saving our shared humanity, which has suffered gravely from the continuation of this genocide.

Let us stand with Gaza in our stomachs, in our homes, at our workplaces and schools, and in the streets
and squares across the globe. Let us work together to break the siege on Gaza by all possible means:
through protests, donations, organizing convoys and flotillas to break the blockade It is not only life in
Gaza that is a stake – it is the very idea of life that is being attacked. Today it is Gaza and Palestine,
tomorrow it will be everywhere. We must all escalate the struggle against this genocidal settler state and
all complicit, collaborating, and cowardly governments that provide aid and cover for it. We must
strengthen the boycott movement and pursue Zionist war criminals and their partners, collaborators, and
genocide deniers through local and international judicial systems from Ramallah to The Hague.
